A new limited edition emerges from the Mulliner workshop in Crewe – and with it, a darker take on the phenomenal Bentley Continental GT Speed.
At the heart of the new Black Speed edition lies the same 6.0 litre twin-turbocharged W12 engine that powers the original GT Speed, the fastest Bentley ever built. Yet with introduction of this fearsome new creation, Mulliner reveals a more adrenaline-charged character; a statement of exhilarating intent.
DRESSED TO THRILL
Stunning red engine-turned aluminium adorns the car’s instrument panel, fascia and roof console – a modern twist to the days when the strength and lightness of this material was critical in racing car construction, it’s also a material Bentley has used for years. The use of this crimson technical finish is a first for Bentley and the Mulliner team has spent significant time experimenting with different production methods to create a truly exciting and distinctive material. In the Black Speed, these glinting, hand-polished surfaces cement its status as a modern masterpiece.
DARKNESS WITH AN EDGE
The Black Crystal finish that encases the Black Speed is punctuated by accents of bright St James Red, for the ultimate in contemporary sports style. The entire bodykit sees crimson flashes applied to its edges, the laser-like red lines splitting at the front to encircle the matrix grille, with brake callipers and door mirrors finished to match. A fine line, painted entirely by hand, runs the length of the car, while a ‘BLACK SPEED’ badge can be seen on each fender. 21” Black Speed Directional Wheels are the first from Bentley to feature a gloss painted finish, their uncompromising darkness complementing the body of the car.
SEAT OF POWER
Inside the Black Speed’s handcrafted cabin, Beluga hides continue the dark theme established outside. Contemporary GT Design Seats, created and built to order by Mulliner for the most discerning Continental drivers, feature accent sections upholstered in vivid Hotspur hide. Hotspur contrast stitching is used throughout, while a red 12 o’clock stripe adorns the Beluga leather steering wheel and the bezel of the Breitling dashboard clock. Should anyone still doubt the provenance of this rare and remarkable car, the words ‘BLACK SPEED’ are embroidered on every headrest and engraved in each treadplate.
