1957 Porsche 356 A 1600 Speedster by Reutter

1957 Porsche 356 A 1600 Speedster by Reutter

The 356 offered is one that Porsche enthusiasts dreams of finding: a virtually complete and largely original, numbers-matching T-1 Speedster that has been stored in a dry Texas garage for more than 40 years.

The late Sam Fleming purchased this 1957 Speedster in the Dallas area in 1967 when he was just 26 years old; shortly thereafter, he met the love of his life, Nely. Before Sam and his wife-to-be traveled to Mexico to meet her parents, his close friend showed him a ball-point pen, which Nely still carries, and told him that he ought to paint the car that particular shade of orange. A photo album retained by his wife and family shows the car when he bought it in its original White paint (as a majority of Speedsters were finished). The door jambs and the underside of the hood and engine cover remain the original white. At some point early in the car’s life, the Porsche acquired its rare fiberglass hardtop, a dealer option that is much sought-after today.

Sam and Nely enjoyed their little “bathtub” for many years, until it was parked in the couple’s Dallas-area garage, where it would remain carefully covered up for some 40 years, until it was discovered recently by noted Barn Find book series author Tom Cotter. The 60-horsepower Type 616/1 1600 Normal engine and four-speed, fully synchronized manual transmission are both original to the car per the factory Kardex, a copy of which is included on file. The battery box shows minimal corrosion (which is usually expected of these old 356s), and the floors and body panels appear solid and rust-free, benefitting from the dry and Texas climate.

The Porsche remains quite complete, although the original bumpers had been removed; they were hung from the garage ceiling and will be included with the car, as will a box of additional parts and spares, including the original Speedster trim pieces. The car retains its hardtop, original side curtains, and convertible top and frame assembly.

Here is a rare opportunity to acquire a solid example of Porsche’s most desirable early sports cars; one that could either be given a complete restoration, or perhaps brought back to its original color by the judicious removal of its orange paint, which should reveal the factory-applied finish beneath. Regardless, old Speedsters in this condition are rarely discovered, and this one is ready to join its next owner.

New Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain

Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain

From unpaved tracks to rock climbing or steep serpentine roads to a snow-bound ski lodge – the new E‑Class All‑T errain takes routes where conventional estates often have to give up effortlessly in its stride thanks to greater ground clearance with large wheels and 4MATIC all-wheel drive as a standard feature. And it also cuts a fine figure thanks to its striking look with powerful flared wheel arches and SUV radiator grille. The E‑Class All‑Terrain will celebrate its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show 2016. The market launch will follow in the spring of 2017.

“No E-Class has ever been as versatile as the All‑Terrain. The new model combines a striking look in SUV style with the intelligent space concept of the estate. This is coupled with lots of innovative safety features and the multi-award-winning E‑Class interior”, says Ola Källenius, Member of the Daimler management board responsible for Sales and Marketing of Mercedes Benz Cars. “With 4MATIC all‑wheel drive as a standard feature and increased ground clearance thanks to the AIR BODY CONTROL multi-chamber air suspension the All‑Terrain is a flexible all‑r ounder – for unpaved roads, family and leisure time.”

Thanks to styling elements with an off-road look the All‑Terrain has a powerful and robust appearance which also distinguishes it from the classic estate. Dynamism and modern luxury unite with superiority that leaves no doubt as to the status of this model and follow the current design idiom. The All‑Terrain is a further ambassador of the Mercedes‑Benz design philosophy of the sensuous clarity that defines modern luxury.

The most eye-catching feature of the striking front is the SUV-style two-fin grille with a star integrated in the centre. The fins come in iridium silver. The distinctive front bumper and the panelling in underride guard-look, electroplated in silver-chrome, also contribute to the robust appearance. The top part of the three-part front bumper is painted in the body colour and the lower part comes in grained black plastic.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain

In the side view the black wheel arch covers are a distinctive feature that emphasise the all-terrain character. This also applies to the side skirt that comes in the same colour and features a chrome trip strip. Three exclusive light-alloy wheel sets in 19- and 20‑inch format with higher sidewalls give the vehicle a confident look, more ground clearance and enhanced comfort on rough roads.

The All-Terrain also features a model-specific three-part bumper at the rear with the top part painted in the body colour and the lower part in grained black plastic. Further features typical of an SUV include robust outer load sill protection and a visual underride guard electroplated in silver-chrome.

The special features of the interior include a trim part in aluminium-carbon look exclusive to the All‑Terrain, stainless steel sports pedals with rubber studs and floor mats with All-Terrain lettering. The equipment of the All‑Terrain is based on the AVANTGARDE interior line, EXCLUSIVE and designo appointments are optionally available. The new model boasts all the intelligent load compartment solutions of the E‑Class estate such as the rear seat cargo position and folding with a 40:20:40 split as a standard feature. All E‑Class innovations relating to safety, comfort and convenience are available.

The All-Terrain will be launched as an E 220 d 4MATIC (143 kW/194 hp) with the newly developed four-cylinder diesel engine. A short time later a variant with a six-cylinder diesel engine will follow. Both models come with the new 9G‑TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission as standard.

2017 Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster debuts ahead of Paris

2017 Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster

Mercedes-AMG is blowing even more fresh air into the AMG GT family. Shortly after the world premiere of the AMG GT R, the sports car and performance brand from Affalterbach is presenting two exciting roadster variants of the two-seater sports car. Alongside the AMG GT Roadster*, the AMG GT C Roadster* enhances the portfolio with a completely new model variant. With an output of 410 kW (557 hp) and peak torque of 680 Nm, the AMG GT C is the most powerful new Roadster variant and uses some of the technical refinements of the AMG GT R. These include active rear axle steering and the electronically controlled rear axle locking differential. In combination with the AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension, the AMG GT C Roadster guarantees dynamic performance at the highest level. The top Roadster also takes its lead from the top AMG GT R sports car where muscular proportions are concerned: the wider rear wings create space for a wider track and wider wheels at the rear axle, allowing even higher cornering speeds and best traction. The variable performance exhaust system also ensures an authentic V8 sound from the AMG Roadster.

2017 Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster

The new Roadsters make hallmark AMG driving performance an even more intensive experience. “With our two Roadster models, we are strategically expanding the AMG GT family by two exciting variants. With the AMG GT C Roadster, we are also introducing a new model variant to which we have transferred main performance-related components from our top sports car, the AMG GT R. The result: a highly dynamic driving experience in a very exclusive ambience, coupled with that pure roadster feeling,” says Tobias Moers, Chairman of Mercedes‑AMG GmbH.

With the two Roadster variants, the Mercedes‑AMG GT family has now increased to five members. The two new sports cars with fabric soft tops likewise have the technical genes for which AMG is famous. These include e.g. the lightweight and torsionally rigid aluminium bodyshell plus powerful and efficient V8 biturbo engines. The entry level into the Roadster world is the AMG GT with an output of 350 kW (476 hp). The GT C Roadster adds a completely new output level. With 410 kW (557 hp) it is the more powerful of the two new open-top sports cars.

2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV offers 238 miles of range

2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV

Chevrolet promised to offer the first affordable electric vehicle with 200 miles or more of range and will exceed those expectations when the 2017 Bolt EV goes on sale later this year. With the vehicle’s EPA-estimated range of 238 miles, owners can expect to go beyond their average daily driving needs — with plenty of range to spare — in the 2017 Bolt EV when charging regularly.

“Chevrolet showed the world the production version Bolt EV earlier this year and in a few short months we’ve moved from that vision to a reality,” said GM North America President Alan Batey. “The Bolt EV is a game changer for the electric car segment and it will start to become available at Chevrolet dealerships later this year.”

Bolt EV buyers won’t be able to find a better value for an all-electric, thrill-inducing ride with an expected MSRP below $37,500 and before available federal tax credit of up to $7,500. Plenty of range, cargo space, technology and safety features make the Bolt EV a great package for any driver.

“While range is important, we knew Bolt EV owners would want more — more space and more power — and the Bolt EV delivers,” said Bolt EV Chief Engineer Josh Tavel. “Our team took special pride in optimizing every aspect of this vehicle, especially its impressive range and ride dynamics.”

When the Bolt EV arrives at select Chevrolet dealerships in late 2016, Chevrolet will offer a flavor of electrification to meet any customer’s needs. Whether it’s the pure electric Bolt EV, the Chevrolet Volt or the Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid, Chevrolet dealerships are full of affordable options for an efficient and engaging driving experience.
